As far as beat 'em ups go the gameplay is quite solid for Maximum Carnage, attacks and combos are simple and satisfying to perform. Several heroes from the Marvel universe can be summoned to help Spider-man or Venom during their battle by finding their respective hero icon. Using these icons efficiently is key to surviving the later parts of the game, and make no mistake, this game is very difficult. Bosses love to team up on you, and there's no password system, so if you want to see the ending get ready to replay the same levels over and over until you master them. Several levels are reused and enemies do become quite repetitive, but the addictive gameplay and awesome rock music by Green Jelly make up for it.
