Switching between powers on the fly to deal with enemies feels great as usual. The new gear system is handy but can be used to bypass some of the more tricky obstacles, I would have preferred if they designed the game with a slower pace in mind and omitted the gear system altogether. Stages tend to drag on for a bit and the art style can take a bit of getting used to. When 3D models are used it looks great, but other assets that are clearly 2D stick out like a sore thumb and can make the game feel like a lower budget title. But of course the gameplay is what matters, and it's some of the most refined the series has to offer. There's nothing groundbreaking here but it's still good fun, just be sure to turn off the voices or you might lose your sanity in the shop menu.
